Why a carpet needs deep cleaning

A living-room carpet holds between two and four kilograms of dust a year. The dust comes from the air and from shoes: the carpet lies on the floor and takes in whatever lands on it. A vacuum lifts the top layer, and the rest settles toward the backing and stays there.

Extraction reaches deeper. The product is injected under pressure down to the base of the pile and drawn straight back out with the dirt. The water that comes out is visibly dirty, and we show it to you at the end.

We work at your home. Nothing has to be rolled up, carried anywhere or waited on for days. A standard living-room carpet takes us about an hour.

  • Done in place, no rolling up, no carting off
  • We test the colour somewhere hidden before we start
  • Every stain cleaned separately, according to what caused it
  • We get rid of odours, including from pets
  • Extra drying, so it is walkable the same day

What comes out and what does not

We say this in advance so you know what to expect.

Comes out in most cases

  • Dust, sand and mites from the base of the pile
  • Pet hair
  • Food and drink stains
  • Odours, including pet urine
  • Greying along the walking lines
  • Soiled fringes and edges

Difficult or impossible

  • Bleach, it has removed the colour rather than covered it
  • Ink and hair dye left for more than a few days
  • Burns and melted pile
  • Sun-bleaching across a whole carpet
  • Frayed and worn-through patches
  • Stains previously treated with the wrong product

At the inspection we tell you which marks on the carpet we expect to lift and which we do not, before you have paid anything.

How the clean runs

Inspection and colourfastness test

We check the composition and test the product somewhere hidden, usually under furniture or in a corner. Wool and some hand-woven carpets do not tolerate the standard setting, and that is established before the work, not during it.

10 minutes

Dry vacuuming

Deep vacuuming with a turbo head before any water goes on. Wet dry soil and it turns into mud, which then has to be pulled back out.

10 to 20 minutes

Stain treatment

Each stain is cleaned separately. Greasy, protein and tannin stains need different products, and one universal product across all three gives a mediocre result on all three.

Extraction

The product is injected under pressure and drawn straight back. We work in overlapping passes so no area is left untreated and no tide marks form as it dries.

about an hour for a standard carpet

Drying and handover

We extract the residual moisture and speed the drying up with ventilation. We show you the water we collected and walk the carpet with you.

Why we clean carpets on site

The carpet stays with you

Nothing rolled up, nothing carted off, no week with a bare floor. We finish in one visit.

No heavy fragrance

Carpet holds fragrance for days. We use products that neutralise odour rather than masking it with perfume.

Tested before the work

Always somewhere hidden. If the colour runs or the material will not tolerate extraction, we tell you and decline the risk.

We say it upfront

Before we start we tell you which marks we expect to lift, so you know the outcome before you pay.

Walkable the same day

Proper extraction removes almost all the water. If you air the room, the carpet is usable that evening.

A professional machine

The difference from a hired domestic machine is pressure and suction. They decide whether the dirt comes out or just moves around.

The same team, the same standard, every visit.

Five mistakes people make cleaning a carpet themselves

We have seen each of these many times, and each makes a later professional clean harder.

Rubbing instead of blotting

Rubbing drives the stain deeper into the pile and frays the fibres. Blot from the outside in with a white cloth, and change the cloth rather than pressing harder.

Hot water on blood and milk

Protein stains set with the heat and then stay for good. Cold water, always.

Vinegar and bicarbonate at random

They help with some stains and set others for good. On wool, vinegar can change the colour too.

Too much water

A domestic machine puts down more than it lifts. The water reaches the backing, dries over days and leaves a stale smell that then has to be dealt with separately.

Cleaning only the stain

Treating one spot leaves a clean circle in an otherwise grey carpet. If you clean, clean the whole panel to the edge.

If you have a pet

Urine reaches the backing and often the underlay beneath. Clean only the surface and the mark goes, but the smell stays and comes back in humid weather.

Tell us in advance if it has happened, even a long time ago. The treatment is different and uses a neutraliser that breaks the salts down rather than simply covering them.

„The living-room carpet was seven years old and I was convinced that was just its colour. It turned out to be two shades lighter. The water they extracted was black.“

Maria G., client in Iztok, 3×4 m carpet

Worth knowing

How often to clean a carpet

A living-room carpet walked on every day wants cleaning once a year. With pets or small children, every six to eight months. Office carpet where people come straight in off the street wants it twice a year, because the dirt comes in from outside and grinds at the fibres.

It is not only a question of looks. Sand and grit in the backing act like sandpaper with every step and cut the fibres from within. A carpet that has not been cleaned in five years is usually worn out as well, and cleaning does not fix that.

Wool, synthetic and hand-woven

Synthetic carpets tolerate a standard extraction setting without difficulty. Wool needs a lower temperature, a neutral product and a shorter dwell time, because the fibre is sensitive to alkaline products and can shrink.

Hand-woven and older oriental carpets we look at separately before we take the job on. The colour really can run, and not every carpet suits wet cleaning in place.

Why tide marks appear after home cleaning

Rings around the edge of the dried patch mean the dirt was pushed sideways rather than pulled out. It happens with a weak machine, or when only the stain is cleaned. Proper extraction covers the whole panel to the edge, with overlapping passes.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the carpet take to dry?

Usually between 6 and 10 hours depending on pile depth and ventilation. We leave it slightly damp, not wet, and with a window open it is usable that evening.

Do I need to move the furniture out?

No. We move lighter furniture ourselves and work around the heavy pieces. If you want the carpet cleaned under a wardrobe or sofa, say so in advance so we can allow the time.

Can a wool carpet be cleaned?

Yes, but on a different setting, with a lower temperature and a neutral product. Wool is sensitive to alkaline products and can shrink if it is cleaned the wrong way.

Will every stain come out?

Most will. Bleach, ink and hair dye are often permanent because they have removed or replaced the colour. We tell you honestly at the inspection.

Will the colour run?

We test somewhere hidden beforehand for exactly that reason. If the colour runs we tell you and do not take the risk.

Do you clean the fringes too?

Yes, included in the price. Fringes collect the most soil because they drag along the floor, and they are treated separately.

What do you do about pet odour?

We use a neutraliser that breaks down the salts in urine rather than covering them with fragrance. If it happened a long time ago, a second treatment is sometimes needed.

Can fitted carpet be cleaned in place?

Yes. Fitted carpet is cleaned without lifting. It is a standard request for offices and stairs.

How many carpets can be done in one visit?

Usually between three and six, depending on size. For more we plan two consecutive days so there is time to dry.

Is there a minimum booking?

Yes, €25. For a single small rug it works out better to combine it with another service.

Is it safe for children and allergy sufferers?

Yes. The products are biodegradable and free from strong fragrance, and extraction pulls out a large part of the mites and allergens down in the backing.

Can I walk on the carpet while it dries?

Better not for the first two hours. After that yes, preferably in socks rather than shoes.

Do you work at weekends?

Yes, Saturday is a working day for us. Sunday by prior arrangement.

How is payment handled?

Cash on completion or by bank transfer. We issue invoices on request, including to companies.

Will there be a smell afterwards?

There is a faint damp smell while the carpet dries, which disappears completely once dry. If you are sensitive to it, book a day when you can ventilate well.

What should I do with a fresh stain before you arrive?

Blot with a white cloth from the outside in, never rub. Use cold water rather than warm, and do not pour household remedies on at random.

Can carpet cleaning be combined with another service?

Yes, and it makes sense. Most often with a deep clean or sofa cleaning, on the same day and discounted together.

What if I am not happy?

Tell us within 24 hours and we come back free of charge. If the result genuinely cannot be improved, we say so at the inspection, not after the work.
